GOOD ADDRESSES: JACQUES EN TERRACE IN THE HEART OF OLD NICE

Located in the heart of Vieux-Nice, on the famous Cours Saleya, the restaurant Jacques en Terrasse has quickly become a must-visit address since it opened in December 2024. Another restaurant! I hear you.... Not at all. Jacques en Terrasse is an ambiance, an atmosphere, a philosophy, a den. Simplicity in the noblest sense of the word.
Run by three passionate friends - Clément, Kristen and Théo - this establishment aims to be a friendly place, somewhere between a chic bistro and a wine bar, in short a festive spot with a sunny terrace.
At the helm of the open kitchen, chef Victor May, who trained with Robuchon and was formerly head chef at Nuances, offers a short, changing menu, which is renewed five times a year. The dishes, inspired by the French terroir, are designed to be shared: mimosa eggs with nduja, squid stuffed with figatellu, guinea fowl vol-au-vent with gizzards and chestnuts. Special care is taken with the products, with quality sourcing and respect for the seasons it goes without saying....Each product is chosen after meeting, discussing and evaluating the farmer and producer. Travelling, going, seeing, tasting .... Before offering it.
Cheese and charcuterie enthusiasts will be delighted by the selection, orchestrated by Clément, a former cheese-maker. Brillat-Savarin, mascarpone with truffles, and saucisson maigre de coche take pride of place, accompanied by lovingly chosen French wines.
The décor at Jacques en Terrasse tastefully blends vintage elements with modern touches. Antique objects, an original vaulted ceiling and an imposing golden disco ball create a unique atmosphere. With seating for 178, divided between the interior and a double terrace overlooking the Cours Saleya and Cours Jacques Chirac, the place is an invitation to relax and get together.
The day passes slowly, as shoppers and tourists pass each other and go about their business, but when 10pm comes around, the atmosphere livens up, the soul becomes festive, and at Jacques' terrace the atmosphere changes.... The music gets louder, and occasional DJ sets transform the restaurant into a party venue. It's one of the few places where several generations can meet in an atmosphere that's both good-natured and festive. On Sundays, it's time for “Dimanche popote”, a family-style lunch featuring dishes such as cochon de lait and blanquette. Is sharing a Mediterranean philosophy? Or maybe it's the memories of those family Sundays of yesteryear...
In short, if you're looking for an authentic place, an estaminet where your taste buds come alive and you can dance the night away, you've come to the right place! Jacques en Terrasse style and boldness....
